Amos Bio

Well known to television viewers for his starring role in the series Good Times and as a regular on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Amos also received an Emmy nomination for his performance as Kunte Kinte in Roots.

Recent films credits include Lock Up with Sylvester Stallone, Coming to America with Eddie Murphy, The Beastmaster, Let's Do It Again and Split Second, for which he received an NAACP Image Award Best Actor nomination.

His role in Norman, Is That You?, the longest running play in Los Angeles history, brought him a Best Actor nomination from the Los Angeles Drama Critics. His other stage credits include the role of Sam in Master Harold...and the Boys, the Broadway comedy Tough to Get Help and the role of Sir Toby Belch in the New York Shakespeare Festival's all-star production of Twelfth Night with Michelle Pfeiffer, Jeff Goldblum, Gregory Hines, Mary Elizabeth Mastrontonio, and Stephen Collins.

Amos Bio Born in New Jersey, Amos was named Artistic Director of the state's Keane-Brown Center Stage performing arts organization. After graduating with a degree in sociology from Colorado State University, Amos was a social worker in New York and became head of the Vera Institute of Justice.

Starting in the business as a stand-up comic in Greenwich Village clubs, he moved to California, where he worked as an advertising copywriter before he began appearing in guest spots on such shows as The Tim Conway Comedy Hour and Love, American Style. He also appeared in the television film Bonanza: The Second Generation.

He is currently the Artist in Residence for the American Stage Company, located on the campus of Farleigh Dickinson College, Bergen County. He also is the author of Halley's Comet, with which he toured the United States. Most recently, Amos can be seen in the features, Mac, Ricochet and Mardi Gras for the Devil.
