The wheelchair is used by Betty crewmember Vriess whose legs are paralyzed. The exposed-component design of the chair was necessitated by the need for a rifle to be broken down into indistinguishable elements and incorporated into the basic framework. This is how the crew of The Betty is able to sneak someof their weapons onboard the Auriga.
